1. He could have "mates" who are willing to journey with him in his boat.
2. A person could have reached a summit in one aspect of life and is probably alone at that summit, but in his other aspects, he is very much a "people" person. And has discovered the magical balance between his various avatars or roles or aspects.
Example: Bill Gates, I am sure he is peerless in Philanthropy :D, but he seems to be very much a family oriented person.

Is the person who is farthest also alone?
Not necessarily because:
1. He could have "mates" who are willing to journey with him in his boat.
